What are ultrasonic cleaning tanks?

Ultrasonic cleaning tanks are specialized machines designed to clean a wide range of components and materials using high-frequency sound waves. These tanks generate ultrasonic waves that create microscopic bubbles in the cleaning solution through a process known as cavitation. As these bubbles collapse, they release energy that effectively removes contaminants such as grease, oil, dirt, rust and oxidation from intricate surfaces and hard-to-reach areas.

DCM Ultrasonic manufactures a wide range of ultrasonic cleaning tanks with different capacities, in order to provide a tailored response to our customers' needs. Our smallest model has a capacity of 10.4 litres, and its lifting platform is capable of lifting up to 30.2 kg of weight. On the other hand, our largest model can hold up to 60,000 litres, for cleaning large parts such as circular heat exchangers. We have a wide range of models with different capacities and also options to customise an ultrasonic tank for each specific need.
 

How ultrasonic cleaning tanks work

The operating principle of ultrasonic cleaning tanks is based on the transmission of high-frequency sound waves (typically between 20 kHz and 80 kHz) in a liquid medium. The key steps of the cleaning process include:
  • Tank filling: The cleaning tank is filled with a specialised cleaning solution, often water-based and mixed with detergents or solvents adapted to the contaminants to be removed.
  • Ultrasonic wave generation: A generator converts electrical energy into high-frequency ultrasonic waves, which are transmitted through transducers into the cleaning liquid.
  • Cavitation process: Ultrasonic waves create rapid cycles of pressure and vacuum in the liquid, forming millions of microscopic bubbles that implode on the surface of submerged objects, dislodging dirt and impurities.
  • Efficient cleaning: As the process continues, contaminants are effectively removed without damaging the material, making it an ideal method for delicate or complex components.

Within all our cleaning systems, in addition to the main ultrasonic cleaning tank in which the parts to be cleaned are immersed, there is also an auxiliary tank in which residue and dirt floating during the process are removed. This makes it easier to remove oil and dirt, leaving the part sparkling clean, and the operator can collect the dirt content from the auxiliary tank and deposit it.
